It’s easy to forget, sometimes, where the things we use every day actually come from ... and many of us are too busy to think about it, so we get what is easiest at Target or even Amazon.
But when you choose to shop small, you’re choosing to support local economies and actual, real people who make the items you are buying.
A Little Closer to Home
Farmer’s Body has always been a small business.
We’re a team of women — creating, pouring, labeling, packing — all here in Vermont. And from the beginning, we’ve made intentional decisions about who we work with and how we grow.
We source ingredients from local farmers whenever possible, partner with women-owned businesses, and build relationships, not just supply chains. Because to us, “small” doesn’t just describe size — it reflects how we choose to operate.
What Happens When You Shop Small
When you support a small business, the impact is closer than you might think.
- It supports real people — not just a brand name.
- It keeps money circulating in local communities.
- It helps create jobs and stability in places that need it.
In fact, studies have shown that a significant portion of money spent at small businesses stays within the local economy — supporting other small businesses, services, and families along the way.
A Different Kind of Experience
There’s also something else you feel when you shop small: Care.
Small businesses are often built by people who are deeply invested in what they make — and in the experience of the people receiving it.
That shows up in the quality of the product, the way it’s packaged, the communication you receive, and the willingness to help when you have a question. It’s a more personal exchange. Not perfect. But real.
Small Doesn’t Mean Alone
Supporting a small business doesn’t always mean making a purchase.
Sometimes it looks like:
- Leaving a review after you’ve tried something.
- Recommending a product to a friend.
- Sharing a post or tagging a brand.
These small actions matter more than most people realize because they help small businesses grow, they help others discover something new, and they build a sense of connection that’s hard to replicate.
Why It Still Matters
Shopping small isn’t about rejecting larger companies. It’s about choosing, when you can, to support something closer. Something more personal. Something built with intention.
It’s about knowing that what you’re buying has a story — and that your purchase becomes part of it.
At Farmer’s Body, we’re grateful for those of you who want to be part of our story. Every order, every kind word, every recommendation — it all matters more than we can fully express. Thank you for choosing small. Thank you for being here.
